Ballymena Primary School

School Grounds

Our school is in an urban area and in the early 1990's the school grounds reflected this type of environment, being mainly tarmac and concrete. Part of our development plan over the last ten years has been to change that image. As a result, our playground and school exterior have now been transformed into areas full of colour with fun places to play, hide or just sit, as well as many different "garden" features.

Not only has our emphasis been on making our grounds more aesthetically pleasing ~ we have also been very involved in promoting ways of caring for our school environment and in using our grounds as an outdoor classroom. As a result, we have won many awards for our innovative and extensive programme of improvement. Children, teachers, caretaker, principal and parents have all rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty!
