Focused Inspection Report - October 2006

The inspection focused on the work in English, information and communication technology (ICT) across the curriculum and the effectiveness of the school's special educational needs (SEN) provision. The inspection also evaluated the school's procedures for pastoral care, including child protection.

Conclusion

The strengths of the school include:

  • the nurturing ethos and the pastoral care of the children;
  • the commitment to inclusion and diversity;
  • the outstanding leadership of the Principal in all areas of school life;
  • the hard-working conscientious and commited staff who work effectively as a team;
  • the excellent quality of the teaching observed in the majority of lessons;
  • the focus on developing the children's learning skills through a wide range of well-planned practical activities;
  • the articulate and courteous children whose behaviour is exemplary;
  • the effective links with a wide range of external agencies;
  • the strong support of the parents and the Board of Gvernors;
  • the high quality of provision in ICT and the excellent standards achieved;
  • the excellent support provided by the ancillary staff; and
  • the good standards achieved by the majority of children in English.

In the area inspected, the quality of education in this school is excellent. The educational and pastoral needs of the learners are being very well met. The parents and local community can have confidence in the school's capacity for sustained self-improvement.

No follow-up inspection is required.
