| Our World Project As a result of winning the WWF "Our World" challenge competition our school received £15000 to spend on the school grounds. To see some of the work we undertook visit our school grounds page. Part of our work also involved a curriculum project
based on recycling, renewable energy, citizenship, environmental issues
and other aspects of education for sustainable development. Parents, visitors
from other schools and distinguished guests came to see our work. Peter Burton and Sara Lamont our Earth Champion and
Reserve Earth Champion visited No10 Downing Street to meet the Prime Minister
and Environment Minister, Margaret Beckett. Peter says he hopes, "People
will have clean water and proper sanitation and that developed countries
will work together to improve the living conditions in poorer countries."
The Prime minister told the Earth Champions, "We share your concerns
about poverty, quality of species and habitats and access to clean energy
and water." At the World Summit the Earth Champions reported back to other students in the UK via the WWF Education and BBC Newsround websites, gathering news, interviewing delegates and representing the views of young people from the UK. It wasn't all work, however. The Earth Champions and their teachers visited a national park, museums, WWF projects, two schools in Soweto and interviewed polar explorer, Professor Robert Swan.
