ICT

Our school has a rich heritage in the use of ICT. A recent inspection report described the school as one which “enjoys as international reputation as a centre of excellence in the use of ICT.” In 2004 the school was awarded the “ET Sharing Excellent Practice Award”, one of only four primary schools in Northern Ireland ever to have achieved this status. The Principal also won the BECTA leadership award for ICT in 2005.

All children enjoy a wide range of ICT experiences including the use of programmable devices, communication tools, databases, spreadsheets, logo and control technologies. Each Foundation and Key Stage One classroom has a minimum of 8 computer systems while the school’s CATAPULT project ensures that each Key Stage Two child has their own laptop for use in school and, on occasions, at home. The Digital Creativity Suite has 32 computers for Internet research, 16 music keyboards, 16 digital video cameras, 16 digital stills cameras and 2 sound recording booths. For more details on our digital creativity projects see the Digital Creativity page.

Recently all classrooms have been furnished with a visualiser. Netbook computers (70 in total) have also recently been purchased to enhance the CATAPULT concept with a more portable solution focused on particular learning needs.
