District Inspection:
Information And Communications Technology (ICT)
The points below deal mainly with the important issues
emerging from a district inspection of ICT.
The strengths of the work include;
- the strong strategic
leadership provided by the principal and the ICT co-ordinator in the
use of ICT to support the children’s learning;
- the centrality of ICT in the school development
plan;
- the teachers’ planning for the progressive
development of the children’s ICT skills and knowledge in many
curricular areas;
- the excellent materials produced by the teachers
to facilitate the children’s learning in strands such as data
handling and modelling;
- the children’s interest in using ICT for
a variety of purposes and their ability to apply a wide range of ICT
tools in lessons;
- the high standards achieved in ICT by many children,
including their ability to integrate various ICT packages to improve
the presentation of their work; the children’s ability to work
independently and to improve their work as it proceeds;
- the teachers’ involvement in ICT staff development
and their confidence in using ICT to enhance the children’s learning;
- the strategic and thoughtful procurement and deployment
of a wide range of suitable software and hardware to promote learning
in the school;
- the display of ICT work to celebrate the children's
achievements and stimulate their interest.
The area for improvement is;
- the further development of the internet to provide
the children with the opportunities to develop research skills.
