THE DAVID BELLAMY AWARD
For Environmental Cleanliness

This year we have entered the David Bellamy Award and have chosen 20 activities that we hope will improve (even more!) our whole environment.

  • This term our "BPS Page" and "BPS Extra" news sheets - produced by school pupils -will provide more details and photos of the actions we are taking.

For Environmental Cleanliness
PUPIL’S CHARTER

1. Pick up any rubbish.

2. Each class to keep their classroom tidy.

3. P4-P7 classes to take part in weekly litter duty outside.

4. Participate in Ballymena Borough Council’s annual environmental week.

5. Pupils to keep corridors tidy on a daily basis.

6. School caretaker to check toilets regularly for cleanliness and to award prize for best kept area.

7. Unwrap food in classrooms before going outside.

8. Put compost bins in classrooms and playground.

9. Take part in visits from outside agencies which teach about environmental matters.

10. Grow plants/vegetables in school grounds and be responsible for upkeep.

11. Collect aluminium cans, textiles, cartridges, and paper for reusing/recycling.

12. Repaint playground markings.

13. Teach pupils about environmental issues through school assembly.

14. Design environmental cleanliness posters for display in school.

15. Inform pupils/visitors/parents about environmental issues by updating ECO-schools and playground noticeboards.

16. Make fridge magnets to take home to tell parents about reduce, reuse and recycle media campaign.

17. Involve pupils with environmental projects linked to ECOS centre.

18. Educate one another about a clean and healthy lifestyle through annual health promoting day.

19. Raise environmental issues through school council/class council meetings.

20. Pupils design Ballymena Primary School Page on school website to show environmental work in progress for others to see examples of good practice.
