A particular feature of the school is the use of new technologies. All
classrooms have a minimum of six computer systems (many have up to ten)
and the school has a purpose built ICT
suite housing sixteen networked systems. One of the systems
in each classroom is also on the network. The addition of three scanners,
three digital cameras, a data projector, microscope and two web cameras
greatly enhance the facilities on offer. Children engage in activities
which involve the use of Word processing, Data handling, Logo, using CD
roms as well as the Internet.
Structured
Play
Structured Play is a feature of the school's provision, particularly for
Year 1 and 2 pupils. From the first day a child enters Ballymena Primary
School, he/she will have access to a brightly coloured and attractive
Structured
Play Unit. This purpose-built
area allows children access to shop, cafe, house and medical role play
as well as sand, water and constructional activities. Three teachers are
qualified in utilising the methodology of Primary Movement.
Religious
Education
The school provides Religious Education in accordance with the NEELB scheme.
Collective worship is also conducted three mornings per week and reflects
the school's Christian ethos. Visiting ministers/pastors participate in
some of the school's assemblies. Parents who wish, may withdraw their
child from any aspect of religious education or worship. The school welcomes
all pupils irrespective of belief.
Homework
The school regards homework as an essential element in maximising children's
learning potential as well as providing an invaluable opportunity for
parents to participate in their child's education. The amount and type
of homework set will vary according to age and ability. Full details of
the homework policy is given in the Parents' Information Folder.
