Project
Ballymena Primary School in Europe
We have been involved in Comenius projects for the
past seven years. The first project was "Kids for Nature". This
was a very successful project which produced some excellent work and resulted
in very close ties among the five partner schools, which were:-
 |
Ecole Drusenheim near Strasbourg in
FRANCE |
 |
Second Primary School in Cottbus near Berlin in
GERMANY |
 |
Kinnulanlahti Primary School in FINLAND |
 |
First Primary School in Zielona Gora in POLAND |
 |
Ballymena Primary School in N.IRELAND |
The second and current project is "Kidzone"
At the beginning of this project we lost the French school because of
a change of principal, but we were very fortunate to bring on board a
Greek school. This gave us a spread of schools covering north, south,
east, west and central Europe.
 |
First Primary School of Nea Triglia,
Halkidiki in GREECE |
The theme for the "Kidzone" project was Citizenship
and addressed the following issues
| Year 1 |
The child as an individual |
| |
The child within the family |
| Year 2 |
The school community and the child's place within
it |
| |
The
local community and the child's place within it |
| Year 3 |
Our country; its government, laws and education
system |
| |
Our place in Europe |
We have worked within "Kidzone" to raise
the self-esteem of our pupils, to make them aware of their responsibilities
as citizens and to instill in them the importance of being and feeling
European.
The success of both projects owes much to the interest and dedication
of the teachers involved, the help and support of school principals as
well as the enthusiasm of all pupils. We also acknowledge the support
given to us by the NEELB and Central Bureau.
W e look forward to a successful completion of our project and hope to
continue the close liaison with our partners well into the future.
