Extra-Curricular
Awards
Goldmark
Having initially achieved the "Sportsmark" award from the N.I.
Sports Council, we went on to gain the ultimate "Goldmark" award
in recognitionof the breadth and quality of the extra curricular sporting
opportunities on offer in our school.
The school football team competes regularly in the local
primary school league and cup tournaments. All boys and girls from P.4
upwards have the opportunity to participate in extra curricular football.
Hockey is also on offer for both boys and girls from
P.5 upwards. Other sporting activities include Netball
for girls, Short tennis, Rugby, Cricket
and Athletics. Each year the school participates
in the NEELB Swimming gala. Some children also qualify
for the Northern Ireland finals.
Education
Extra
In 1998 and 2000 we gained the Education Extra Distinction Award for the
variety of non-sporting, extra curricular activities on offer in the school.
Our School Choir has taken part in the "Young Voices"
event at the Odyssey Arena over the past two years as well as singing
on a local radio show. Other musical activities on offer are Percussion
and Bagpipe playing. Pupils with a culinary interest
can go along to Cookery Club while Heartstart
offers the opportunity to learn life saving skills. In the language
department, French and German are both
on offer and Scripture Union allows pupils to discover
how the Bible relates to their everyday lives. Those who enjoy a thinking
challenge are welcome at Board Games while Drama
Club provides a chance to throw inhibition to the wind! In Term
3 Cycling Proficiency is also on offer.
